On the other hand, fees for other professionals - who often simply hire private investigators to obtain results they are otherwise unable to deliver themselves - may range, for example, from $200.00 per hour for a junior lawyer to $500.00 or $600.00 per hour or more for experienced senior counsel.

(Fees in other countries are usually comparable when the value of the local currency is adjusted.)

Depending on the type of service or information requested, the 'cost' or investment required to obtain a desired result may be in the form of a flat fee or an hourly rate.

For example, a flat fee is charged for obtaining land title information or criminal record information, while an hourly rate is charged for surveillance or investigation services.

Discounts may be provided in the case of volume requests or extended hourly rated assignments.

New or international clients, in the normal course, may be asked to provide a monetary Retainer.

(A Retainer is a 'good faith' financial commitment in an amount that realistically and reasonably reflects the anticipated initial investment required to financially support the service(s) requested including any expected disbursements but, unless otherwise agreed, represents only a deposit to be applied to the final account and not the full cost of the services which are rendered.)

A financial retainer in United States Dollars (USD) is required of international clients.

An Invoice and/or receipt will normally be provided unless the client directs otherwise.

A formal contract between Internal Affairs and the client for the provision of private investigation services is recommended to define expectations and protect mutual interests but may be waived under emergent or other circumstances.

G.S.T. (Goods and Services Tax) is required for services provided to Canadian clients.
